    Triton 216 Fishunter

I’m thinking of trading in my 2007 Triton 215X and picking up a Triton 216 Fishunter but it seems like no one is running this rig. I can’t find hardly any info on it. Anybody running one? Thoughts?

I remember looking at them at the 2018 boat show in Chicago and was turned off by the extra sparkley gelcoat and the general appearance of them. Could be a very good boat.

I have a 216 Fishunter that I bought new in 2017. I have a 300 Verado Pro and I put the Ultrex on it. I use the boat on the Great Lakes ( Erie ) and I really like it, great dry riding boat that handles rough water very well.

The 216 is the best big water boat in the industry, bar none.

Thanks for the replies. I fish mostly for spotted bass (like smallmouth), largemouth bass and stripers in my lake. It also has walleyes but they are very tough to target and catch, they are usually caught by accident here. I like the multi-species as it’s relatively versatile, and comfortable if I just want to cruise a bit with my wife.

Can either of you comment on a few things:

    1. How the 216 Fishunter handles in comparison to the 215X

    2. How would you compare it to the 206 Fishunter

    2. How is the lateral stability of the 216 (the 215X really rocks & rolls when hit broadside by relatively small boat wakes)

    3. How is the 216 for bass fishing (does it get blown around when using bow mounted trolling motor, are the sides too high to comfortably land bass, can you comfortably maneuver it in tight spaces, etc?)
    - The Boat Doc feels the 206 would be better for bass fishing, but I feel like I’ll miss the size and rough water handling of the larger boat after being used to a 21’+

    Many thanks for any feedback.

For those that have the 216, particularly JJTriton who has the 300 Verado Pro, can you let me know what prop your using and how the performance is?

I’m going with the new V8 300HP Verado which has a lower rpm range than the supercharged variety and there’s not a lot of info out there on props for this setup with this new motor.

Ive heard the Bravo I FS is the way to go, but pitch size is up in the air, thinking 23p or 24p.

rpr, I have a 24p Bravo 1 FS on my 216 300 Verado Pro. My top speed with a full livewell, fishing gear and 2 good size fisherman is 64.

Thanks. What rpms do you turn at WOT?

Ok, new dilemma. Should I go with the new V8 300HP naturally aspirated Verado, or the old L6 350 supercharged Verado? I’m leaning toward the new V8 300 as I don’t need a top end of 70mph, 65mph is way more than enough on my busy lake, but the price difference is “only” ~$2K for the extra 50 ponies.

I would think if I end up wanting more HP out of the naturally aspirated 300 there will almost certainly be some fairly simple aftermarket programming available sometime soon. There’s got to be fairly easy ways to dig deeper into the power potential of this new very large displacement outboard.

I like the new 300HP V8 as it will have better low end torque, it may have better time to plane (no spool up delay), it takes 87 octane as opposed to 89+, it has a much larger alternator that puts out 115 as opposed to 70 on the older L6, it has a later generation mid section, it’s 10dB quieter at WOT than the old L6 350HP, it’s supposedly more fuel efficient, it’s newer technology, etc, etc.

The “bigger is better” mentality that I usually have is running counter to most of my arguments here.

    Thoughts please!

Stay away from the Verado unless you like burning extra fuel and hanging more weight on your transom.

Meh, I’m getting old. After enjoying the ProXS for the past 12 years on the 215X I’m more than willing to deal with an extra 95lbs and slightly lower fuel economy for a much quieter, smoother ride with power steering (while still maintaining essentially the same power and top end of the lighter/louder ProXS).
