Are there clubs in the area? I’ve looked online but haven’t seen a whole lot.

There are plenty. Middleburg bass club is a good one. I get home in April from deployment and can show you around.
North Florida Christian Bass Club
XPRESS H 18 SS, YAMAHA 115
Look up http://stjohnsbassanglers.com/. Started in 1970, fish Sundays, draw format.
Also Jacksonville Bass Club - http://www.jaxbassclub.com. Smaller but a bunch of good folks, I joined this year.
Here's a list of clubs in the area as well - http://www.bassboatcentral.com/bassclubs9.htm
St. Johns has been around a long time - although I actually though it has disbanded since the web site is woefully out of date - they need to get somebody on updating it asap.
There is an ABA Trail as well, which would allow you too fish other tournaments as well within ABA. There is quite a few clubs around Jax that have been operating for quite some time, as referenced above.
Middleburg and NFCBC are both good clubs. I don't club fish but these are two good clubs to work with when we schedule opens. There are also several good trails in this area. Whiteys Thursday night, Corky Bells Thursday night ( in Palatka) Messers at Palatka City Dock( PDC) and Xtreme ST Johns/ Rodman. Some club guys in this area don't like some of the Palatka opens because you WILL be fishing against the best there is. So if you chose to fish an open don't be surprised to find the boat beside you is an Elite pro. "To BE The Man, You Got To Beat The Man!" lol
