    1992 201 Questions

I have a 1992 201 that I am planning to start working on soon, the bottom right motor mount bolt has the dreaded "brown stain". The transom feels solid and does not move when I jump on the outboard and there is also no stress cracks on the transom/splash well area. i've read several posts where guys "dry out" the transom using heat lamps. Question is can I simply remove the outboard and do the heat lamps from the outside or is it more effective to remove the gas tank and do the lamps from the bilge? Also what distance is best to keep the lamps off the transom without causing a potential fire hazard?

    Outside is just fine.
Remove any/all fittings, including top cap rail.
You're going to create a steam cloud, you have to let it escape.
Two week under the heat lamps will get it done.

thank you for the reply. Should I remove the brass train tubes from the splash well and lower drain plug? They seem like they are in good shape. And If I do have to remove them where can I buy new drain tubes from? looked online most seem like you need to buy them straight a use a flair tool to re-install with the rolled lip. Would keeping the heat lamps about 18" off the transom be effective, also does spacing matter? was thinking two heat lamps would be alright but I'm just guessing.
