    Grill Recommendation

I'm looking to upgrade from a 22" charcoal weber. I mostly smoke pork shoulders/ribs and grill chicken. I've grown up on a weber but am looking for something bigger.

    - charcoal and wood only (no gas or pellets)
    - side wood box preferred
    - indirect heat for 3-4 racks of ribs
    - under $600

Yep a larger Weber would get my vote. 26” or even the monster ranch kettle if you need the room. Consider a WSM too if you like to smoke. Much more pleasurable experience than using a kettle for smoking. You can smoke four times as much or more meat with a 22” WSM than you can with a 22” kettle.

I second that! It’s the best purchase I’ve ever made. We throw a lot of partys and everyone loves it. The pizzas we make are amazing.

I've got a 22" and 26" kettle along with a 18" and 14" WSM not to mention my Weber 3 burner gasser. I bought a slow n sear for my 26" and have been using it more than the WSMs.

This. I have run the course with grills and smokers. The Weber grill we have now I could smoke with but don't use it for that. Best grill I have ever had. I still use my Bradley smoker if I want to smoke. If it dies I will use the Weber.

I've had smokers, infrared, charcoal and propane.
Winner overall by a mile ... Weber propane.
It's simply more versatile and pleasurable to use.

Only propane. If I were to get another charcoal grill, BGE, as mentioned, and natural charcoal.

Chargriller Akron, have it and a green egg. Can’t tell any difference between the two of them. Only $300 at Lowe’s.

I got rid of a Brinkmann Longhorn off-set smoker. Heavy duty and cooked quite well. Just too big for my needs, and required frequent tending, and adding wood.
Bought a Large BGE 4 years ago. Best smoker hands down I’ve ever used. And versatile. Charcoal w/high heat, cook pizza, or slow smoke meats or fish at 175-225. A 12 hour smoke @ 225 burns maybe 3-5 lbs. of lump charcoal.
If you need more room buy an X-Large. It will last a lifetime with care.

Acorn is a bargain for what you get. I own multiple smokers ranging from a cheap vertical offset up to a rotisserie smoker which holds 2200lbs of meat and the acorn is the most fun to use. Buy an additional 18" grill grate and a pizza stone in the 15" range and you instantly turn the setup into an indirect smoking machine. I have cooked on mine from 220* smoking up to 700* doing burgers (people freak out when you can turn out perfect burgers in 3 minutes, it's fun).

The unit is cheap and leaves you some money to get either a rib ring from BBQ Guru:

or any other rib rack of your choosing. If you want to make this the ultimate smoking/grilling machine, get a fire controller (I use a guru unit) and you can smoke till your hearts content. Run only lump in this unit, it lasts forever and cleanup is very easy.
