Looks like this cool front has about run its course.
Plumbers have been here since Monday trying to fix the hot water tank. No hot water. Each day they'd replace something thinking that fixed the problem. Changed out both thermostats, changed out both heating elements, replaced some kind of tubes, replaced the recirc pump, etc. Still no hot water. Today I said "enough", bring me a new hot water tank. They bring a new tank out this afternoon and one young guy decides to check the water meter and it's spinning like crazy. So, looks like the cold weather cracked a hot water pipe under the house. Hot water tank has been rebuilt to like new status, but my plumbing bill will probably be close to $600 and my water bill will probably blow my hair back
This "polar vortex" has been costly for me
Dang it man, I hate that for you. Wonder where all that water went ?

I smell a rat. How can it freeze one in the ground under your house before it froze one in a wall or in the yard?
The copper hot water pipe that burst was in the crawl space under the house. The water pipes are not in the ground but above ground in the crawl space. They repaired the break and now everything is working great!
The water flowed out of the break into the pea gravel and then into the ground.
Better get some insulation on those suckers
