course up showing as north up and loss of cursor function on sonar screens

I have sent this question to humminbird tech support, and still no solution from them. So decided to post here just in case someone else has had same problem and found a solution.

I have a bow gen 1 helix 10si and 10 di and console helix 12, ulterra i-pilot link and transom 360 and gps/heading sensor, all connected through a hub and all on latest software versions, 1.830

    my issues are:
    1. if i leave the bow units on 360 and retract it to go to a new fishing spot if after a few minutes I dont go back to using the 360 one or both bow units freeze up. if I change either of the bow units to a different screen when 360 is retracted it does not freeze up. and the 360 works fine at the console helix 12, as I routinely change screens on the helix 12 when moving locations. Note that the 360 automatically stops pinging when retracted, because it is the transom 360.

    2. on the helix 12 after being on water for 15-30 minutes usually the course up function will not work properly and it displays as north up, and also when this occurs the cursor function will not work such as when on side imaging and I want to cursor over to mark a waypoint on something I see, when i try to arrow over to a way point the unit makes the sound that it recognizes I have pressed the arrow key, but the cursor will not appear when on a sonar screen, it will work correctly if on a mapping screen. this occurs regardless of whether I have selected the internal gps for the helix 12 or the external gps heading sensor for the 360.

a power cycle of the helix 12 temporarily solves the issue for about 30 minutes. I have restored defaults on the units multiple times with only a temporary improvement.

could this represent a hardware problem with the helix 12 or the heading sensor or the transom 360 unit ??

my helix 12 and 360 are less than one year old. my network hub, helix 10 si and di and ulterra are under extended warranty as part of my boat purchase.

    thanks for any help.

My stuff does that too. Gets annoying when you're fishing and trying to drop waypoints on structure. Rebooting is all I can do as well.
I'm not sure what triggers the glitches, I'm thinking maybe after using ipilot link for a bit.

    Cheers,
    Scott

    hummingbirds response:
Have you ensured that the Ethernet Hub is receiving proper voltage? With Five (5) networking devices all linked to this one hub, if there is a voltage drop, can cause the units to perform incorrectly.

Have you tested the units off of the network and connected them directly to the 360 bypassing the Ethernet Hub? Testing the Units to the 360 individually will determine where the issue is coming from.

I did verify good voltage with my meter at the power plug to the hub.

Blah blah blah, it never did that stuff until the last couple updates.
They fix one problem and create another, lol.

Best to just report it and they'll eventually fix it.

I have verified the loss of cursor function occurs even when 360 is connected directly to the unit, bypassing the hub. so far after going back to software version 1.6X the loss of cursor error has not occurred. hb tech support was about to have me send in my 360, but don't see the point if it goes away with change in software version.

got an email from humminbird today that the loss of cursor is a known issue, and they are working on a software fix.

How did you check the loaded voltage at the Ethernet Switch power plug with a meter?

Oh man that’s been so long I think I just touched one of the points of my meter to each little hole on the end of the power supply plug and got a read , but was not technically loaded voltage.

did similar thing to check power at the unit. By removing the quick connect and plugging the power direct to the unit with care you can check voltage as the unit powers up to look for a big drop, which was a check of loaded voltage

Try running heading up instead of course up. Course up is meant for actually plotting routes and autopilot.
