05' 201 pro xl jackplate size

Hey guys, I'm picking up a new to me 05' 201 pro xl next week with a 2012 pro xs 250 on it. I am wanting a hydraulic jackplate to mount on the boat and I am wondering what the general consensus is for the right JP setback? Anyone with experience with this boat can you please chime in. I am not brand loyal to atlas or bobs but I might want to try out the sea star hydraulic plate which are much less common.

Stratos always recommended an 8" max plate. That is what I just put on my 195 ProXL. Don't know if you would gain any significant increase in performance going to a 10" or 12" plate. Maybe someone with one of those plates will chime in.

I did a 10" fixed plate on my 05 201xl and noticed big improvement on handling and getting on plane. I recently added power poles and have to tweak the pad to prop height.
I had a fixed 6" plate if that helps to gauge improvements.

Thanks good to hear. I think the boat has a 6" JP and I will be adding power poles and a 4th battery as well so I will need to change out the plate soon

With the 10" it needs to run higher prop to pad.
