Need help figuring out if I have a bad fuel sending unit, gauge, wires or gremlins. Last couple seasons fuel gauge will show correct fuel level part of the day and then stop showing correct level. Either stuck at half full or stuck at empty. I figured since the gauge was moving and showed correctly occasionally it must be the unit. So I took tore the boat apart, took the seats out, removed the tank cap (Terrible design Triton!) and took out the sending unit. Turned the key on and tried to get the sending unit to fail. The gauge showed correctly no matter what I did. I couldn't get the float to stick anywhere either.
So....guys that have dealt with this previously please let me know if you experienced the same thing, if you think its the sending unit, or what.
2005 Tr-20x 52gallon 17" reed switch unit like in the picture attached.
Might be the float is not floating like it should due to fuel intrusion? Seems like it wouldn’t work at all if that was the case though but wired stuff happens with boats.
