Wanting more speed out of my 202, any tips?

I have a 98 202 Dcx with a 200 mercury efi 2.5L, I can only get it up to 55. I do have a 4 blade prop right now but I tried a 25 pitch 3 blade and the holeshot was terrible and I got it up to almost 60. Is that about average for this boat or is there something I can do to get it faster? Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!

Yes a manual jack plate, it is about half way up and I believe it’s a 6 in jackplate

25 M Yamaha, 3.5 off the pad. You should see mid 60's loaded ready to fish year round. High 60's in the winter. The 202 is a VERY easy hull to setup.

What are you running for a comparison for him, I’d guess that extra 25 would get about 3-5 mph more.

A 3.0 225 is a different beast than the 2.5 200. What a 2.5 struggles to do on the 202 the 3.0 really makes it sing.

So it might be more than I was guessing?

202/225 should be low 70's without breaking a sweat. There's a huge torque difference between the 2.5 and 3.0 motors. When you can make a 3.0 grunt a little, it's going to really go.

So, you have a 202 and you're thinking of buying a 201 from Curt? Are you going to sell the 202 then? Or, take both boats to college with you?

I think your under powered? Even the 198 Elites are rated for 225. They will run 70-74 with 26p 4 blade.

Not under powered with a 2.5 200. They run just fine. The 3.0 is better but the 2.5/200 ain't to shabby. 198 is a different hull, different set up.

Agree with Matt! No way you can compare the 202 to any wide-body...or maybe to any other hull ever!

    Well actually...
181, 186,191,202 and 221 are all the same genetics. There's not any difference between any of them behind the console to the transom.

It's the 202 with a 3.0 motor that shines the brightest, something funny about that weight/horsepower formula.
