Are there changes to the units beyond the mapping? Faster processer, better graphics, etc?

Thinking there has to be a bit more than the mapping as you can update your map for free for a year. That and they were blowing out the g2s so cheap last fall.
G3 Livescope and networking.
G2 not

We are talking echomap plus correct?
G1. Original echomap
G2. echomap chirp
G3. echomap Plus
G2 no ethernet. Runs Panoptix, but not LiveScope.
G3. 7 and 9 in units Panoptix, LiveScope, ethernet Yes

Oh sorry my misunderstanding. I thought the g2 was the echomap plus and the g3 was the latest echomap plus with the navionics data included. Not sure why I thought that.
I was thinking the same as puhlw......

Understandable since I just made up this. G1 G2 G3 stuff. That's not from Garmin. Their terminology is non-chirp, chirp, and Plus. I just thought the G1 G2 G3 made more sense.

Nothing wrong with your terminology at all......i think the OP could have explained a little bit more on what he meant by G2/G3......but hey, we figure it out sooner or later...

Sorry if there was confusing by me, the OP. I am new to Garmin. Boat has Solix 12s (bow/console) and I am adding Panoptix (probably). So was looking at 93sv. But was told there are still some 93sv Gen2 models available that I might look at since I will not be networking. Then I was given information that the Gen3 also had additional mapping opportunities that I might like. I am currently using Lakemasters in my birds. So was looking to find out what other differences there are between 3rd and 2nd gen, can I use Lakemaster, etc.
So looking above at the comments....
Chirp vs Plus? Higher frequency for better resolution?
Live scope? Assuming that is more like down imaging/forwarding imaging than Panoptix which looks more like sonar?
Ethernet I have a handle on (1 for 3 isn't bad in baseball).
New question - Can I use the internal puck on an Ultrex for sonar with the Garmin? If so anyone have the part number for the adapter?
Thanks for the responses.

I think where I got confused is the new maps that just came out are called lakevu g3 and the echomap plus units are being advertised as g3 mapping now. The echomap plus has always been a generation 3 unit though as winchester described.
So the chirp vs plus for echomap is map related, not signals? Sorry getting confused with the wording chirp (as in chirp on humminbird).

Ok.. what is Echomap? Is that mapping? Or is it a signal?

Garmin currently markets three different series of MFD's, fish finders so to speak.
The entry level is Striker.
The mid level is echomap.
The high end is GPSMAP.
Within each series are quite a number of different models identified with additional words and sub model numbers.

Garmin does not use Generations. That is a Humminbird thing.
The 93sv Chirp will NOT run Livescope
The 93SV Plus will. The + has touchscreen and will ethernet to another + unit.
Also newer higher end Garmins will run LS. See the compatibility list here.
