    80Lb Thrust Trolling Motor On A 721

Is anyone running a 80LB on a 721? I just bought a new to me 2016 721. It has a 112 MinnKota on it but I have a brand new 80 Ultrex I just bought a few months ago I would like to swap it out with. After having an Ultrex I don’t know if I can go back. Just wondering how a 721 handles with a 80Lb thrust.

I don't have a 721 or an 80 Ultrex, but if I was in your position, I'd head to SAMs and buy two Duracell group 31 AGMs for the TM and do it.

I've got a '12 721 and added a 80lb Ultrex. In the heaviest winds on the TN River system Spotlock holds me in place so I don't see the need for more thrust. My understanding is a 36 volt system won't drain as quickly if your a tourney fisherman. Switching to the Ultrex was life-changing!

    My 2 Cents. :)

I'd sell both and get a 112 ultrex. I had an 80lb on a 20ft skeeter for a few months and hated it! It would run down almost every day, but I was putting in long days and fishing in heavy weed/current. For me, I couldn't ever imagine running anything but 36volt on a 19'+ glass boat.

I know spend that much on a boat why not spend a little more. Problem is when momma says you spent enough you better cool it for a while. I’m going to have to ride out my Ultrex for a little while. Because if mommas not happy no one is happy. ;) If the 80 will handle the 721 like it handled my Skeeter I’ll be good for time being.

Geez! The guy just asked a question. I don’t think he was looking to be ridiculed!

If you are a small tournament guy or just a weekend Fisherman you will be fine with the 80# Ultrex until the funds can justify a 112#. Agree on the Sam's Club Duracell group 31's

I’ve got a 80lb fortrex on a 09 721. I don’t feel underpowered and it last as long as I want it to with 2 optima 31m batteries. I don’t fish anything g with current though.

Thanks fellas that’s what I was wondering. I just fish club tournaments and weekends. I’ll checkout the club 31’s.

I had a Skeeter 225 for 11 years with the 74 MK. Bought a 721 with 80 lb MG. NEVER thought it would be enough. The 721 handles so much better than the Skeeter on the TM. Much less wind resistance, and more responsive to the TM. You won't be disappointed with the 80.

Batteries Plus Bulbs has same Duracells Sams does. I don't belong to Sams but Batteries plus came down to $5 over Sams price per battery for me.

Put the 80 on and try it. Dont think you need any more than that.
