Garmin 93sv new install

New to Garmin so please excuse my ignorance. I installed a new Garmin 93-SV Plus on the front deck. When I powered the unit on, it did not recognize the side or down imaging. (the screens are black) Is that because it was not in the water or did I do something wrong?

In the lower left corner of the screen it will tell you what transducer is connected to unit but it will not give you an image while out of the water.....so if it tells you the transducer name then all should be alright.....
