I quit smoking 37 years ago and when I smoked I used the same stupid excuses for smoking as do today's smokers. Personally I could care less if one smokes or not. However, I don't want to smell your smoke or pick up your butt from my yard. Hell, I don't care if smoking kills you, the worlds overpopulated.

My question remains unanswered. Any smoker, feel free to answer it. Would you prefer to keep smoking? Would you quit if you could?

And yes, there is a big difference.......my overeating does not affect your ability to breathe or eat or live safely...smoking DOES affect others around you directly, as they have to breathe that crap in.
While you are correct in that certain disease states can make one have a higher propensity to becoming obese, Caloric intake can be controlled to reduce that risk. There were NO chubby folks liberated from Auschwitz. Cowtrimmer wants the make sure that (his) tax dollars are not spent on the consequences of unhealthy habits. Childhood obesity brings a much bigger health risk to our children than 2nd hand smoke. The Bacon police are coming....

Greg, as soon as they figure out how to tax sun usage . I'm just a fan of the "if your gonna play you gotta pay" theory. There is a reason why insurance is more on some cars than others and smokers know that going in. I'm not telling you anything you dont know

There are studies that say drinking is worse for you than smoking, how many people want to increase taxes on alcohol or bring back prohibition

Disclaimer, I haven't smoked, chewed or dipped in over 20 years. To me it's about government intervention.

welcome to my world. Alcohol prices doubled on Jan 1 in the country I'm stuck in at the moment due to "sin tax". I've lost 12lbs since then and feel good.

Not what I said. Politicans raise tax $.50 to encourage people to quit. That is just a revenue source. Make it $20 a pack and that might slow them down. Not advocating any tax increase, just saying they are not serious about encouraging people to qukt.

and I'm in agreement with you on that theory. I'm just presenting both sides. There are very few absolutes in this world. Pointing fingers at "them" is fine until that very same thought process has you in the sights as the next to be penalized. The majority of Americans are minorities on some issues.....

Wow what a bunch of intolerant folks...

I drink alcohol, some smoke, dip/chew, others drink Mt. Dew like it going outa style, some over eat, some don't eat healthy... Do what you want because you know what??? Something gonna get you eventually... If you don't like me drinking leave... If someones smoking leave.. Don't wanna watch the fat guy at the all you can eat buffet... Leave!!!... We've already given gov't too much control over our everyday lives, no more, and repeal a few "Nanny State" laws already on the books!!!... It's simple, don't like something leave, vote with your feet and pretty soon we'll all have what we want and can live in peace again... Dan

How did we get into guberment intervention territory ? This was about about blatant disposal of butts in a public place, not taking away your right to smoke. If you want to shit where you eat, that's your business, and by that I mean dump your butts on your own floor or property.

I would say 99.9% would say yes, but it’s not quite that simple. It’s a drug just like many others. The addiction is tough to overcome

Because govt intervention is the only way all the snowflakes will be happy! We have to have the Govt regulate EVERYTHING because only then will No one Ever Hurt Anyone Else’s Feelings! I dip, and I spit in a water bottle that I then put the cap on and throw away...it’s called personal responsibility! Then again, without drinkers, smokers, chewers, overweight people, fast food, unhealthy food, fracking, alternative energy resources, what would anyone bitch about?
