    Mid depth cranking

You never hear to much about this during the spring is it normally better to throw other baits or square bills?

What is your opinion of mid depth? Staging/ postspawn equals mid depth cranking in my mind, but this mid depth might be 8’ on some lakes and 15 on others .

I’d rather get beat with a thorn bush than have to throw a crankbait. lol.

LOL, C'mon dude, crankbaits are a blast when they are hitting them.

I can promise you this, on Toledo and Rayburn, if they will eat a Crankbait, you can’t beat it. I’ve had numerous 30lb+ days and every single one of them was a Crankbait bite

Mid-depth in Spring on my home lake is 2’-4’. I throw an Echo 1.75 squarebill, or a Norman Little N or DT-6 if I want to go a little deeper. There’s always fish to be caught on a crank in Spring, but my go-to baits are spinnerbaits and Magnum Lizards. Bass hate lizards when they’re on the beds.
But, I do love it when they’re pounding crankbaits.

I agree, it’s like vomiting in my mouth, much rather have a blade or jig in my hand but there is no more efficient way to catch them or locate them a lot of times.

Bandit 200, dln, dt4-6, shad rap, and any number of crankbaits work well in spring. Other than the dln you can work any of those from 3-8ft. And on a good crankbait bite you can load the boat fast.

I was just curious of why tactical bassin never talks about it in the spring. Made me wonder if other baits are just more effective

200 Bandit on 6lb line will cover a lot of mid depth

Don't rule out smaller lipless cranks ... 1/4 oz ones are easy to keep mid depth and will get crushed at times

First bait I throw in the spring is a crankbait of some sort. Real early, water in the high 30's low 40's it can be killer fishing crankbaits on a sunny day.

I couldn't have said this better myself. I'd rather go to the house.

Spring is an excellent time to crank. All depths. I have a crank out and ready all year.
