    CHEAP Jerkbait Rod

I’m looking for a CHEAP (<$75) casting rod, less than 7’, to throw jerkbaits, medium sized topwaters, and small crankbaits. Any suggestions? I’m leaning towards the 6’10” Medium Lews Carbon Fire on sale for $40 just because of how cheap it is, but wanted other opinions if anyone had any. Thanks.

IMO the very best sub $100 rod is the Academy Sports Ethos line. Nothing in that price range come close. 6'6" medium.

13 Fishing Defy, 6'7" MH. it has a nice tip, and "somewhat" of a moderate action for a MH power. I have a pair of them that I use for jerkbaits when using baitcast equipment. You can find them for $60

I agree. I use a 13 Fishing Fate Chrome 7’ med/mod for squarebills and it’s a nice rod. I’d also look at a Abu Garcia Vendetta...decent rod for the money, except the guide inserts tend to break easily. Imo, you can’t go wrong with a plain old BPS Pro Qualifier 2 rod. I use a 7’ med/fast as my jerkbait rod.

I do not like a rod meant for crankbait fishing when I fish with jerkbaits. You do not want too much of a moderate action, you want a soft tip that goes into some backbone fairly quick. You want to be able to snap that jerkbait, and have the rod have the power to give that snap to the jerkbait. A moderate action Rod will not give that jerk bait the "snap" that is needed.

Thanks for all the input! I’ve got a lot of option it seems. Any input on the Daiwa Aird rods? I’m kind of liking their reviews that I’m seeing.

I absolutely love using a medium cranking stick from bass pro I use a 7'. The percentage of fish to boat went up so much when I started using this rod no more pulling hooks out of the fish.

Another great cheap jerkbait rod is the Berkely shock rod.

Just bought a 6’10” Medium Lews Carbon Fire for jerkbaiting. Doesn't seem too bad, casts well and has good tip to work the bait but not enough time to give you good review.

This is true. With the glass CBs rods you don't get as much "snap" on the bait.

It's comparable to my Loomis GLX 842(newer model). For less than a 1/3rd of the price

For $40 pick up the 6’10” Carbon Fire. I own a few of them and for $40 it’s a no brainer. I’m sure that rod will work fine for square bills, topwaters, and small spinnerbaits too

Used Zodias 6.10 or 7.2 med, great jerk bait rods.
