    Pellet smoker

Looks like my smoker is about done. I have an upright propane smoker and the bottom has rusted out. I know some critters have lived in there and think their pee probably rotted it out. Planning to go with pellet smoker this time. I know a lot of people on here like the RecTec grills. Trying to determine what size I want, but have a hard time figuring out how much meat it will hold. Is the trailblazer pretty small? I would like the ability to smoke 2-3 pork butts on it at a time. Is that possible, or would I need to jump up to the Stampede? Would like to save that $300 if the smaller will work, but I want to buy once and cry once if needed. Since they don't have dealers, it's hard to get a good idea on the size. I guess I need to go take a look at similar sized grills and determine it that way.

I'm pretty sure i could put 3 stuffed in the trailblazer....but you sound like you are already concerned about size... stampede for you. Don't even look at the trailblazer.

The pic with the big foil balls are the 2 pack pork shoulder from costco with brisket point next to it + smoke tube. 3 would fit. A pic with xtra shelf and leg hangers. Tight on the hanger but it fits.

Emailed RecTec and they said the trailblazer could handle 2 boston butts and the stampede could do 4. Trailblazer is probably all I really need...

I’ve have both of them l If I was gonna own one it would be the Big one . I could get two racks in the Trail Blazer but three would be very tight . Another thing to consider is when it’s summer time it’s hard to keep the trailblazer below 245 degrees .

My Trailblazer being in the shade and auger down to 3.0 kept me going just fine in the summer. Also with Traeger pellets...the pit boss ones seemed to have a lot more heat spikes.

That sucks...my RT is pretty solid with 1° and quite a bit of 0° swings.

I replaced an upright propane model with RecTec last fall, but I was between the Stampede and the Bull. The Trailblazer never seemed like an option. Even though I don't cook for huge crowds anymore I just didn't want to be in that small a box.

I went with the Stampede. It is surprising how much it will hold and I didn't get the extra rack. It will easily hold 3 pork butts and can do 4 or 5 if I want. If I am going to fire it up for that many hours I don't want to cook 1.

I think ribs are a better determining factor. Even cooking for a small group you want a number of racks. You will be really limited with the Trailblazer. although Clif seems to be doing fine.
