    25 or 26???

    05 basscat Pantera Classic, 05 Mercury 200 EFI 2.5.
Had a 24 fury that ran 67.3 @ 5900-6000 rpm but fell flat on its face with a load and had no bow lift at all even light. So I swapped out for a 25 tempest plus today and ran it. 66.8 mph @ same 5900-6000 rpm but had great bow lift. Hole shot was pretty decent on both props. I figured this set up should be in the low 70’s....do I need a 25 Fury or a 26 tempest??

You need the prop worked it's got too much slip.

So both the fury and the tempest needed work?

Will adding cup to the tempest help me out? I figured if I raise me motor higher on the jackplate that I will just gain rpm's.

Send whatever prop you decide on to Ronnie Gilbert and have him work it. Best money you'll ever spend.

The Fury will outperform any tempest in every aspect when Ronnie preps it, in stock form a tempest is better. For your rig I would have him rework the 24

2.5 isn’t going to push a load as well as a 3L. If your getting those numbers with the tempest under load, those are satisfactory numbers.

at 14% slip you may be running the motor to high, try it at 3.5 in and move up 1/8 at a time untill it stops gaining speed and rpm increases, then drop it 1/4
    Thank You Leon Pugh

Other prop guys disagree. Tempest is a hair bigger in diameter. So, when both a tempest and fury are tweaked to the max, tempest should win.

FWIW, buddy w Eyra 225 has spent some time and coin on props and prop work. 26 Tempest worked by Lipton once was faster and overall performed better than a 25 fury worked by someone else. The fury was sent back 3 times for tweaking and still wasnt as fast as the tempest. Actually, the 26 tempest was faster ootb than the worked fury.

Same results w my sis P Classic.

The fastest prop on that year Pantera Classic is a worked Trophy either 25" or 26" depending on how heavy you load it. With a 200 opti max it will run 75 mph but with the lower gear on the efi 70 will be about all you'll get.
