    Practicing Skipping in the Winter?

Just curious if anyone has any ideas on how to practice skipping jigs at home?

Get an old jig and skip across the driveway. It works but neighbors will think you are nuts

If you can make your jig slide across the tip of your carpet, water is easy. Start on your harder surfaces and move to your carpet . Inside is more of a pitching type practice than a roll. ( my home anyhow) . Just learn to control the baits momentum. I play a round in the house most nights. Use chairs to pitch under. Then ad more. Then put a cup to the side of three chairs . You can actually learn to steer a bait around objects. It’s cold as chit up here . I pitch . I pick. . Make yourself a indoor course and go through it. All winter.

This is a technique I'm pulling my hair out trying to learn.
The neighbors already know I'm nuts! Practicing in the driveway will add to it!!

They already do think I am for “fishing” in a swimming pool.

Old jigs in the driveway. Then place a board a few inches off the driveway and practice skipping it under that. Or if the wife doesn’t caee, raise the garage door a few inches and have at it

I practice in the driveway, I use the wife's car to skip under, I also have a detergent pail I've cut the bottom out of and use it to practice skipping into small holes.

Practice in the basement. Low ceiling will prevent you from raising your rod to high(after hitting the ceiling several times)

Put a piece of tape about 10 feet into the spool farther than the distance you are practice casting. Keeps down overruns.

If you're like me go outside and cast as hard as you can into the side of your garage, it'll get you used to picking out backlashes.

Two things that really helped me and one I already mentioned (driveway) and the other was a daiwa tatula reel. That reel is amazing for skipping

Bryan Thrift claims follow through is one of the most important thing with skipping. He demonstrates it buy raising his rod to get lift.

Yhis also puts your rod in the proper position to allow the bait to fall vertically and not pendulum back away from the cover. Also prevent being tight lined by an immediate bite.. then hold on for the 2 o’clock knock!! ( rod position)
