I realize they're not as good as a bank vault and if thieves REALLY want in they can get in. But, I'm talking about something to just deter your average thieving trash that would take more time and noise to break in. Like say at a restaurant or when away from boat for short time.

Why put latches on lids that you must turn to open? They are a pain in the ass. A flush mounted lock does the job for securing lids.Champion has had them for years yet alot of manufacturers are still putting them on. Never had one pop up on the 4 champions I have owned from a 1991 model to a 2001 model.

Yes the whinch would have to be bad ass to break the fiber glass but a saw zaw and probably 4-5 sec I could cut your top cap on both sides and be in or on this ranger with the pos foam lids I can pry them up and snap them .Just trying to let people know your not really safe and to keep insurance on your stuff is the only real security you have.

It’s even easier than a sawzall, battery powered grinder is what scares me the most. Any lock in about 3 seconds.

I really like the idea of using straps vs latches, however on the 3 or 4 210's I've looked at the lids don't look like they close flat. The deck with all the lids closed looks very uneven.

Johnny, I am surprised. I have never seen uneven decks/lids on any Champion/Charger. I hope what you saw was not a common occurrence .

On my 198, both rod lockers stick up above the deck. Back compartments are flush though.

Mike, looks like the edges of those lids are beveled?? I also like the looks of that carpet. I'm going to have to recarpet mine in the next year or so. I don't know if there was something the first owner put on it or washed it with, bit it's starting to let go in some spots and feels like the backing has gotten brittle ...

I like that color too! The beveled edges are from the padding under the carpet. If you don't have it, you would not believe the difference it makes! My wife even complimented it and she HATES bass boats! LOL

My color is not that far away from yours ... I like it as well. I hadn't thought about padding when I recarpet, but I will now. I know Stompy got his front deck padded when he got his 596 and says it's the only way to go.

So the two Elite models, you can get optional anti-fatigue mat under the carpet? Thats great

I am pretty sure it is standard on the Elite models - at least the front deck is. My 496 has both decks done. It is nice and the carpet wears better I think.
