Replace old Ranger trail with new EZ loader

My 1998 Ranger trailer needs a new axle, brakes and all of the secondary structure cut off and new steel welded on. I am considering buying a new EZ Loader aluminum single axle with brakes (rated at #3100). The shop owner says they’ll lift the boat and costom fit the long center bunks to make it self aligning when loading. Has anyone done something similar? I figure I’d rather go fishing this spring vice work on this old rusty trailer. My boat is a 1998 R-91I with a 200 EFI on the back. Any input appreciated.

Weight rating seems a hair light, but I am no expert on that rig. You’d know best, but it seems like in your geographical area an aluminum frame would be a positive. Interesting proposition.

I’d check the weight rating on your trailer, the r91 isn’t a light boat. Lots of dealers around carry modular aluminum trailers, juat call around and get the best price. I got a load rite for my jet boat.

    Hull #1500 lbs
    motor #475 lbs dry
    full gas #250
so I’m looking at #2250 lbs plus gear for my R-91I?

maybe I’ll weigh the boat to get a better number

You have to include the weight of the trailer itself also

Don't know anything about an "EZ Loader" Trailer. Make sure it has 2 sets = 4 bunks. Watched a friend lose a Stratos on a ramp because it had a cheap 2-bunk trailer.

Hull and Motor, full gas tank, T/M, 3 Batts, and the gear in my compartments, I have #2630 lbs. The trailer has a rated capacity (not GVWR) of #3100 lbs. (No need to subtract trailer weight) That puts me at 85% capacity, 15% for all the fish I bring home. New trailer has 4 bunks. 215/75R 14 C tires. I’ll check my old trailer rating tonight. Thanks everyone!

I think the rating comes from the axle rating and the tire rating.

If it was me I’d put a new Ranger trailer under my Ranger. Do what you think is best for you.

Collins has some in Smithfield. I would consider a tandem with brakes and higher rated axle. Seen several boats with aftermarket trailers in our area that really look good if you upgrade to aluminum wheels.

I can’t find the data plate on my 1998 Ranger Trail galvanized trailer (for my 1998 R-91 Intracoastal boat). I guess my best option is to weigh my boat before I go any further.

This or find a used Ranger trailer. EZ loader would be my last option.

Agreed! Think about re-sale also. I personally wouldn't consider looking at a used Ranger that wasn't on a RangerTrail trailer. That would devalue the whole package.

I have located a 2006 Aluminum Ranger Trail that came under a 2006 Ranger Cayman 191. It has a single axle rated @ 4500 lbs GVWR, and 3730 lbs GAWR. It has 15” wheels/tires and in good condition, ready to go. I’m going to go pick it up Saturday morning.

Yup! Found it on BBC, this site is awesome! I really need a reliable trailer so I can fish this spring, instead of fixing my rusty trailer. Plus, I want to fish the annual Coast Guard tournament in FL this spring.
