The early rouges from the 70's and early 80's were made from a different plastic....and had a little better action. KVD used one to win the Pittsburg Classic. I heard after that Classic, Smithwick is making some like that again.

Didn't KVD use an older model rouge to win the Classic in Pittsburg?

Jerkbaits are like crankbaits, you can fish 20 and you are going to find one that catches fish more than any other. Doesn't matter the brand or the color, it's just going to work under any condition you'd throw a jerkbait. I've got a box full of jerkbaits and there are only about 3 in there that I fish. The best is a white and black suspending rattling rogue, suspended perfect out of the package and out fishes every bait i've ever had in cold water.

Think the one kvd used had lead bbs vs copper or steel. It was a shallow floating version and the lead gave it a softer or dulled rattle I think if I remember correctly.

Yes. Smaller bill. Thinner bill. Bill has dimple. Floats. More lively action.

Suspend dots do the same thing nowadays...........

IF, and it is a significant IF, you can find the old Smithwik Rogues in the red packaging, IMO they are better than the ones made today. The motion is more erratic and they seem to wobble differently than today’s version. Just my opinion.

OP google Jason Christie and Smithwick Rogue. I'm sure there are numerous articles covering everything you would need to know.
