Sensitivity in older rods vs. newer ones

I know that rod technology has changed a lot in the last 20 years. So much has been done to increase sensitivity and make the rod lighter. However, when you are looking at comparable, higher end rods (older GLoomis GLX vs. new GLoomis GLX or older St. Croix Legend vs. new St. Croix Legend), how much discernible difference do you think there is in sensitivity? Is an older GLX going to have comparable sensitivity to a new IMX rod? Or would an older GLX still be comparable in sensitivity to a new GLX?

Sensitivity is so subjective person to person that it's hard to have a truly definitive comparison.

As a general rule the lighter the rod the more sensitive it is.

Mark is correct in his assessment. With that said, there are other blanks both now and in the past that are as good.

And when paired with a Lew's reel, is the single most effective bass catching tool ever invented, or ever will be.

I have rods that are ten years old that feel as sensitive as brand new sticks. The only diff to me is weight. For the record, i can’t spare the bread for a nrx....

I think if you are spending more than 100-130 on a rod you are waisting money. Had some Loomis years ago and they were no more sensitive than the Berkley Series ones that I used

I agree. Personally I have loss of feeling in my hands and do not react like I used to. There was a time I could cast onto a deep bank and feel the weight of the line change before I felt a bite using 8 lb mono.

True. How did we catch fish with fiberglass rods. I always have been a line watcher and it works for me.
A mistake on your part does not constitute a emergency on my part.

Tend to agree with this.. Having owned GL NRX, as well as some other fine rods, for my money, a Daiwa Steez SVF with AGS guides is hard to top.. But that is just one opinion, and like Camaros and @$$h0le$, everybody has one!

Line has far far more effect on sensitivity , than the rod.

an older rod vs new. simple, the fibers stretch with each flex. a well used older rod, the fibers have degraded, and sensitivity has decreased. Years ago early 90s all used was loomis, they were so far ahead of anything. I do believe that gap is closed, many companies now produce equal rods. One does not need to spend high dollars either to get an excellent rod many in the 100-150 range are excellent, and gains after that price point are miniscule as you increase in cost.

IMO, the old GLX's are just as good (maybe better) and if you are lucky, you also have a Weibe reel seat which was excellent.
