    repairing old trolling motor

    Hello Everyone

I acquired this trolling motor from a friend of mine.
    It does not work.

Looks like it needs brushes and seals

Has anyone rebuilt their trolling motor?

    How hard was it?

    Was it worth the effort?

    Thanks

Ive done most of that. Replaced seals and brushes on a fortrex. Its not difficult, but is kind of tricky. I dont know which motor you have, but you can get a rebuild kit from a dealer with seals, orings and brushes if needed. Depending age of motor you may have to do some searching.

From the looks of the photo it's a Motor Guide. Since it is roasted inside, and obviously was duct taped together to keep out water, which it probably did not, I'd say price a new motor and see what you think.
Looks like parts to me, not a worthwhile project.

It is hard to tell from the photo but you might be better off trying to replace the lower unit. I'm not exactly sure what model this is but I would try searching for repair parts and see if you can find a lower unit.

The one photo I can see shows a Motorguide, looks like in need of a com cap assy and seal kit. Can't see the armature or the magnetic fields. ComCap assy and seals are a little over $100. don't know how much you're willing to spend.
