    Apopka Blues

Been fishing apopka the past few days. Is that lake really that hard to catch some bass? I’ve marked a huge pile offshore but getting them to bite anything has been a task. Caught a few today but nothing compared to what I am seeing. I’m throwing deep running crank baits bulldozing the bottom, drop shot, Carolina rig, Texas rig, swimbaits, traps, a rigs. And nothing.

When there are mats, it’s easier. Don’t know what you are seeing but yes there are big bass there but yes they are hard to locate without mats.

I agree that those are not bass...more likely to be large gizzard shad or catfish. I was launching out of Magnolia Park a couple of years ago and some commercial fisherman were pulling out. They had a pile of catfish about 3 ft tall in the center of their boat..."headed to Ocala", they said. I've marked a bunch of fish on those offshore brush piles too...but couldn't get them to bite either. There are supposed to be some good fish in that lake though.

    Wishin' I was fishin'...
