    I have my engine jacked high 1" below the pad, and a noseconed magnum lower I'm good in the bottom hole. Depends on your set up....experiment...

    I know some is not going to believe this but 90% of the motor weight is on the pivot shaft. The other 10% is on the tilt/trim rams. All of this is bolted to the transom. don't believe me? Knock out the pin on the tilt ram and see how easy it is to lift your motor by the lower unit. It may just surprise you at how little weight there is. I learned this when I had to replace a trim unit on a Merc 200EFi.

    Use what ever you like, all you need to do is keep the hydraulics from bouncing so the seals don't blow.
