It's even tougher with Bountygate still fresh in the owners mind. It's one thing to be a coordinator but it's a whole different game being a head coach and the face of the organization. The hypocritical owners don't like to have their reputations and images sullied.

Good hire even though he used to play for Alabama.
Here are some quotes and why people in Cleveland love him.
“I like it here and I like it here a lot, and everybody around here knows that I like it here,’’ said Kitchens, who started out as the running backs coach under Jackson and Haley. “I love the town of Cleveland. Cleveland and I get along well."
And his loyalty to Baker Mayfield:
“I promise you this, Baker’s not going to blow smoke up anybody’s ass," Kitchens said. “So, if he said it, that’s what he feels, and I’m standing behind Baker Mayfield. I don’t care about anybody that doesn’t work in this building and what they think about what he said, all right? That’s what I stand behind is him and these players in this locker room.”

“First of all, I don’t have a problem with Baker saying anything like that (his remarks after the game),’’ said Kitchens. “The guy spoke what he felt to be true and I don’t know when it became big news to speak the truth. If that’s what he feels, then he should voice it. I mean, Hard Knocks is in here, everybody’s looking for a story. Well, he’s giving you a story. He’s telling you the truth. Everybody’s wanting an inside look at the truth, well hell, that’s the truth.’’

He defended Mayfield again after he appeared to pretend to expose himself in a sideline TD celebration with Kitchens. Mayfield was fined $10,026 for the gesture, and is awaiting word on his appeal.

“I mean, I don’t know what he did wrong,” Kitchens said. “I don’t understand what the big deal is. He’s in the middle of an NFL game. There’s great emotion in the game of football. And whatever he does on the football field is on the football field.

“I like guys that have a relentless pursuit of competition and rally around it. Sometimes when you’re in competition you do ... you just do. You don’t even know why the hell you do it. I don’t have a problem with Baker. If I did, I’d talk to him about it.”
Those who can make you believe absurdities, can make you commit atrocities.

we will DOMINATE our division. Pittsburgh is going backwards BIG TIME!, Cincinnati SUCKS, and Baltimore better find a qb, or start Flecco again!

I was a little surprised that Kitchens got the HC job over Williams. Also surprised that Williams was let go. However, as I look at the stats, I guess I can understand it. While the defense is definitely talented, they were not great statistically. Especially when they played better teams. The defense gave up a lot of big plays against quality offenses.

I'll wait and see what the offseason holds for the rest of the AFC North but as it stands now, I don't think 9 or more wins would be unreasonable. In fact, I think that it would be a huge let down if they miss the playoffs next year.
