    2017 zx200

Just got this boat and have a new truck and wondering if the
bright reverse lights should come on when I press the brake. I never noticed my other boat
do it. Everything else works perfectly

Either bad wiring on the truck or trailer. Put a meter on the truck trailer plug and have a friend hit the brakes, put in reverse etc...all of the normal functions. https://www.etrailer.com/question-31721.html
If everything checks out on the truck your problem is with the trailer

Your trailer brakes are probably not working if your reverse lights are coming on when you hit the brakes.

Why would my trailer brakes not be working I thought those brakes just worked when the actuator was depressed I didn't know they were electric

When you put it in reverse it blocks the brakes so they don’t activate when you backing up. The wire that turns those lights on are connected to the 7 pin that disables the brakes. So if the trailer is wired right when you hit the brakes it’s disabaling the breaks when they should be working.

Reverse lights should only come on when your truck is in reverse.

Don't some trucks need an adapter or something for towing? Had an F150 that needed an additional harness.

You need a 7 pin plug.

If your lights are coming on in reverse and hitting the brakes, you have a bad wire either on truck or trailer. Your breaks are not locking up in reverse because it’s working like it’s supposed to when in reverse. Likely your brakes are not working going down the road because when you hit the brakes on the truck, the same system that works in reverse not to lock up your brakes is not letting them work when needed. Easiest check is to have one of your buddies who has a truck with a 7pin connector hook up to Boat and see if the lights come on when hitting the brakes. If they do, you likely have two pinched wires on the trailer bleeding power into each other. If they don’t come on, check your truck system out.

went so skeeter dealer this afternoon and i hooked up to a new one and it worked fine. the lights did not come on when i pressed the brake. So apparently
its on my trailer. The only thing i have ever done is replace a tail light about a month ago but i dont see how that would have anything to do with it

You need to check for continuity between the brake lights wire and reverse light wire on trailer. Sounds like you have a short between the two.
