1993 285 wood rot?

I took my old trolling batteries out last night to replace with new ones. When I did I noticed there was some exposed wood under the battery holders. Upon further looking I noticed what seemed to be some wood rot under there. Can someone give me some info on this and what needs to be done. Transom seems solid. The wood I found was in the battery hold.

I have no idea what to do. I sometimes drop into the restoration forum to see if there is any rebuilds going on. There is people in that forum who have totally disassembled and rebuilt their boat.
