Raymarine A78 7" Mfd

Does this model require a thru-hull transducer or can a transom mount transducer be used with it? Would this be a decent graph to use on the console for 2D sonar, depth while on plane and connected to a Merc Monitor for engine data with my motor? How would it compare to a Raymarine A97 MFD?

Not familiar with Raymarine products, but they look very interesting to me. Seem to offer a lot of features.

The difference is the 97 is just sonar while the a78 also has DownVision. You can use a transom mounted transducer.
Other than that is just a matter of size.

Ended up buying an ES78 that I will use for 2D sonar and depth while running. May also add a NMEA 2000 to get engine data from my Mercury. I'm going to try a few options to flush mount it, but not sure I have the room unless I cut out some fiberglass! Excited to add something new to the tool box!
