    02 Javelin Carpet

Anybody know what weight carpet came from the factory on the early 2000s Javelin/stratos boats? Getting ready to put new carpet in the boat and trying to decide between 16oz or 20oz carpet.

mine was redone 2 yrs ago with the ranger carpet and it works fine. it was 24 oz I believe. some hatches slightly tight but not terrible. it is heavier than the original slightly. my original lasted good but the backing started falling apart which released the carpet from the glue. go with ranger or basscat carpet if possible

I used the 20 from Bass boat seats and wish I had went for at least the 24. But really there is much nicer carpet out there from companies like Ranger, Skeeter, Bass Cat, etc. Order from them and have much nicer carpet.

It was 20oz. If your going to sell the boat then use the 20oz that most ship for free. If you are keeping the boat do yourself a favor and buy Syntec carpet. Norriscraft at one time sold 16oz, 18oz, 20, and 24 oz.
Ranger sells 24 oz carpet Syntec. When you purchase carpet always ask what the sheared weight of the carpet is? I say this as alot of the 20oz carpets sold and shipped for free is not 20oz after being sheared before shipped out.The rubber backing is brittle and when you bend the carpet along the door compartment wells you can see the backing in the carpet. It is not cheaper buying it either. If you break down the cost from Ranger and other Syntec suppliers, cost is about $15 yard x 7' wide. When you calculate shipping in the syntec is is just as cheap or a few dollars more than the cheap stuff. I can say this from personal experience and along with samples received. Remember nothings free and it might seem that way but after a few years it will wear out.
Pm me if you have questions,

I would use whatever came in it from the factory. A guy I know redone his boat carpet. He had 20 oz but installed 24 oz. His lids were extremely tight due to the extra thickness. He thought they might eventually wear down but after about one year he gave up and shaved some fuzz off the lip so they would open and close with having to strain yourself. They're still more tight than I would like but at least you can now open them without a pry bar
