How can I secure my new prop other than taking it off?

Just got a new Raker HO for christmas and it does everything I need it to, now I'm worried about someone taking it as my boat and trailer don't fit in my garage. Just wondering if anyone knows of a good way to secure it in place where it can't be stolen? Right now I have it torqued down with a castle nut and cotter pin. Thread locker maybe?

There is a company that makes a locking nut system specifically for this but I forget their name. Someone who remembers should chime in...

Sorry for the hijack but looking at the website do they not offer a lock for a 300xs fat shaft? I’m trying to find the thread size but haven’t had much luck.

Definitely a no on thread locker. It will help deter a thief but in return it can cause you a tremendous amount of work to remove the prop. "Typically" a thief is lazy so they look for an easy grab and go item. I would be more concerned with what they can remove from the boat by hand and make an easy getaway verses needing a wrench and having to work to steal something.

Jay, I'm pretty sure the fat shaft has the same threads as the standard merc shaft. I don't know if the same kit fits both, but the threads should be the same.

Ahh, I thought you were talking about nut threads. I didn't even think about splines.

Doesn't the Mcgard just replace the nut? That has nothing to do with the number of splines the shaft has.

Jayfaro mentioned fat shaft and regular but they have the same thread and nut size just the shaft is 1" or 1.25" but the threaded part is 3/4-16 same as OMC so it will work on both.

Great! Thanks so much for the help! Much appreciated. I didn’t realize they had the same thread and nut size
