    Remote boat plugs

Thinking of installing a remote boat plug on my RT198P and was wondering if anyone had any experience with doing the installation and how well it performs. The older I get the less I like to crawl under to put the plug in. And my partners are getting tiered of me blaming them for leaving the plug out.

They work great. Install is tricky depending on room to work. But not complicated. Honestly the best investment for dollar ive made. I have an 03 tr21 and the plug is about 6ft in from transom. Never crawled under it once. Bought the boat. Had it for 2 weeks and said forget that. Had it put in right away and have never looked back.

I see someone makes an automatic plug now. I assume that it uses the pressure of the water to push a ball or cone into an office. When you get on plane or put it on the trailer it opens to drain.

I installed one in mine and love it !! Didn't want to drill a 2" hole in the boat I decided to use a trailer plug mounting bracket from Auto Zone for $10' I got the 6' one and made one loop and then mounted the bracket to the lip of the opening. Works great and is easy to access.

Put one in my Skeeter this past spring . Mounted switch under back deck lid with conduit hanger that I got at Lowe's for couple of bucks . Well worth the $$ . Should be standard equipment on boats . Bought Flow-Rite model through Tackle Warehouse .

I will probably install one eventually but here is what I do in the meantime. I made a “tool” out of pvc and it only cost a few dollars. I used it on my last boat and now on my new boat. I works perfectly and I don’t have to crawl under the boat. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN the plug. I overtightened the plug the 1st time I used the “tool” and I had to drill out the plug. I didn’t realize how much torque the “tool” applies to the plug. Here is a link to my previous post. It includes photos. Just scroll down to post #7. I have a hose clamp on it because it has a very small crack in the pvc. I didn’t heat it up enough when I installed the pvc “collar” and it cracked when I hammered it on to the pipe. I didn’t want it to crack anymore so I just put a hose clamp on it. I have used it for several years with no problems.

I had the remote plug installed on my new boat...LOVE IT!!!!

You just need to keep it clean and lubed or it could cause a failed seal.
Been fishin' since I was 5 years old...Thanks Grandpa!

Where did you put your control? I've seen them in the splash well on a RT188 and also in the battery compartment. Was routing the cable on the plug end very hard? Trying to decide! Thanks!
