I love the layout of both the Caracal and Cougar FTD. I doubt a guy could go wrong with either

Heck, if we're going down this road I want a Margay with a 400R!!!!
I had my choice of either and I went Caracal with rear tanks=75 on a good day.
Came out of a 21ft I Class,,,, yes, there is a difference, but I am VERY satisfied with Caracal!

I came out of an I-Class as well, 20i. The handling properties are totally different. My 20i was bulky and handled more like a barge. The Caracal drives more like a go cart, it doesn’t dig deep into the water when making sharper turns, it stays flatter and turns very quickly. Kinda freaks me out sometimes, how fast it does turn. Don’t worry about the front deck size, it’s very large, larger than the 20i. It can easily fish with 3 men on the front deck with plenty of room leftover. I would however suggest a hydraulic jackplate on either model, it will help the hole shot out tremendously, due to varying load and water conditions. With dual 26 gallon tanks, power poles, full wells and a huge tournament load, it’s still a low 70 mph boat. That’s just as good or better than most boats with a 250 hung on the back. The ride is very good in my opinion, better than my I-Class, I have had both on Kentucky Lake, StClair, and Chickamauga in very rough water. It was both smoother and dryer. Just the other day I ran from north Tohopekaliga to the south end of the lake at 60 mph in 20 mph south winds and it handled them great. If you would like to take her for a spin, let me know, I live on Cave Run and would be happy to take you out.
I just recently traded my 2015 Caracal for a 2018 Cougar and feel like I have compromised very little to nothing. I do like the deck layout of the Caracal, but I like the longer rod boxes of the Cougar and the fact that Cougs will run @ 80mph and out perform any 20'er on the market. Can't go wrong with either!

The Caracal might hit low or even mid 70's on a good day, but the Cougar will cruise at 75 at probably 75% throttle.
A.J. - If you have not already pulled the trigger PM me. I have driven and ridden in both models multiple times. They are far different boats with respect to set up, storage and ride. The Caracal is definitely your bigger water boat - without question.

We don’t believe the measurement chart depicts this much difference.
Thanks everyone for your help. I had one more boat on my short list and got a deal I couldn’t refuse on a Phoenix. Still love Cats though so maybe on the next time around.
