    Triton Aluminum Hull Magnum 186

What is the verdict on the older triton hulls that are the best. I see a 2002 Magnum 186 for sale that needs an engine. Is this a "sought " after hull ? It would be a project for the winter with a conversion to a flats type configuration.
Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas.

Very nice aluminum bassboat! Very spacious decks. It would make a VERY nice boat! I’ve heard a lot of good things about that hull.

Excellent hull, lots of storage and plenty fast.

That hull is great. I had a 176 years ago. The 186 should be rated for at least a 150.

I have an 2006 Triton SP185 and the layout seems to be close to mine just larger. I love my boat and that one is rated for a 150 if I looked it up correctly. If you have any specific questions about how my boat is, shoot me a pm. I love my baby Triton it’s a great boat for 2 people.

Just traded a 176 for a 2006 186 a few months back with a 150 optimax. Love the boat. Front deck is a little wider than the176. Ride is good, runs about 50-52, with two big guys and full gas and tournament load. Would make a great project for you. Good luck.

The Triton you are referring to is a very good hull on a very good boat. I looked for one .... a used one.... in the past. It was one of the "used" aluminum boats I would have bought. It was on a short list at the time. There are some brands that I would not buy used but that Triton would have made a good find. My bet is that you could sell it later if you didn't like it and probably get your money back.

I agree, the more I google this model the more I like it. A 135 OptiMax or 150 would probably make her run pretty good and the layout just kinda makes sense. Looks like a fishing machine. Like I said, my SP185 is an ‘06 and the carpet is perfect, lids are all still tight, nothing rattles...boat is just plain solid.

If you want to put the time in I think this hull is great.

Seller is slow to respond to my requests for additional info. Said it will be 2 weeks before he can do anything. May be getting sellers remorse or more activity than he expected. Will have to wait and see.

A buddy of mine had one of these for a few years. We fished a lot out of it. With a Johnson 150 it would run in the upper 50’s with two people in it. Would hit 60 with one person. It fished really good and had a huge front deck for a 18 footer. In rough water it will beat you up a little more than a glass boat, but it really wasn’t as bad as you might think. He had some transom issues after he added a jack plate, but Triton fixed it under warranty. Just check the welds around the transom and if they are good I wouldn’t hesitate to buy it if I were you.

True pad hull and rated for a 150. I passed on a 176 a few years ago and sorry I did.
