    Question River guys

I've fished rivers very little, and always just from the bank. However, there is a river near me that I think I should fish sometime instead of always just loading up and going to the lake. It's a cold river and is mainly used for trout, but I know guys catch decent bass out of it too. If I put in and fished it I was just planning on cranking down the bank and flipping some of the wood piles, overhangs, etc. How do you guys go about fishing a relatively small, cold river?

Jerkbait, deep rocky bank, lot of times they will sit right on the rock at the edge of the water.

There are creeks that flow into it. Both largemouth and smallmouth, I'm normally a largemouth guy though.

You have to learn how to read current and how fish relate to it. Current breaks, like a rock or log will hold fish, cast upstream and bring your bait by the current break . If no one is home, find another one try it, then go back to the first one. Current seams are where calm water and current are running parallel to one another, sometimes created by points. Fish will be right in the seam.

river fishing 101...when a person learns how tell the difference between good and useless current their chances of catching better quality bass really goes up. The big ones lay in the current to feed. They don't use current as a resting area. They use slack water for that.

Alright, thanks for the info guys. I know a little bit about current from fishing creeks growing up, I guess maybe it's just the same type of concept here.

Smallies... Behind any rocks or deep swirls and let the currenty move it. Keitech swim baits, small jigs that are same color as the ones in he river, and NED rigs.

Do your best to invite an experienced guy/gal to fish with you and ask for clues.
