    21 PHX speeds & Props

Just purchased 2018 21 PHX with 250 Optimax. Haven’t had much time to run her yet but wondering what top speeds guys are getting and what prop setups. Boat came with 24P 4 blade probably great for rough water and heavy loads ...looking for other prop options for max speed. Any help would be great!

I've tried a few different props and kept coming back to the Fury 4 - its fast, handles great, lots of bite. Shop owner who runs a PHX uses the same. With the Merc I would think 24 or 25 would be right. I tried 3 blades including worked props and saw very little gain in top end and lost the bite and handling.

Have a 25p fury 4. Not as fast as 25p fury3. Will agree with previous statement about handling. Rough water ride I’d give a slight edge to the 3 blade as it runs lower. 4 is great for night and summer or small lakes with lots of turns. Keeps speed up better in a turn and gets back to top end quicker even though it’s about 1-2 mph slower top end. 4 blade doesn’t load quite as well either. I run the 3 from about the end of oct to may then switch back.

My ‘17 / Optimax came with a 24 fury 3. Bought a 25 fury 3 as a backup and haven’t found a reason to switch back to 24 after running trying it out. Seeing 73-74 loaded up with the 25 p, but only turning around 5800 rpm. The difference between the two props on my boat was not significant.

Thanks for the help guys. If I can get 73-74mph I will be happy. Only got her to 70mph so far, amazed how well boat handles in turns with 24p 4 blade. any help finding that sweet spot to keep boat from chime walking, seems to do this very easy.

Im still running the 24p Fury 4, removed all the solid plugs on prop and noticed some improvment on whole shot, top end seems to be the same. Going to try and remove all the large/medium plugs as well and see what that does. Hopefully wont blow out. 70 mph seems to be top end with this prop so far, still lots of walking around 68mph.

My 21 phx with verado the 25 fury 4 is best for me. 24 fury 4 was slower. Also tried a 26 and it was slower hole shot and no faster on top end.

Tested a 25p Fury 3 without any plugs and got 70.6 at best and added large plugs got 71.4 mph at best with 1/2 tank gas loaded with myself. Motor sounded better with large plugs in vs no plugs. Ran it in a tournament fully loaded with two people and full tank of gas, live wells empty I ran 67-68 mph at best. I think my 24p Fury 4 performs better. Not sure how people are getting 72-74 mph out of this prop.

The guys getting the faster speeds can probably handle the chine walking to get that top end edge. Most all Phoenix boats will chine walk at higher speeds. You need to learn how "Drive" to control the chine to get optimum performance out of your boat. There is no Jack plate setting or prop that will get you top speed without any chine. It just takes some time in the seat to figure it out. There are posts on it, and youtube vids. Good luck & Congrats on your new boat!

I have the exact same boat and run 71 fully loaded with a 25p fury 4. No chine walk at all if you wait to give it full trim when your up to speed. Can run 71 with 1 finger on the wheel. I have a 24p fury 4 that runs 69/70

I have been running the 25p Fury 3 and only ran 68 mph at best fully loaded two people. I got 71 mph by myself with 1/2 tank gas. chime walking much more controlled. not very impressed with the 25p Fury 3 on this boat. Running prop with large plugs in all three holes.

Numbers sound a couple low. What RPM and have you put weight in rear compartment instead of loading up front? Tackle totally full?

I’ve got a 21phx with a vrod. I’ve only tried a 25p fury 3 and 25p fury 4. The fastest I’ve seen was low on gas and just me was 75 but it was squirrelly. That was with the fury3. I lose 1 to 2 mph with the 4 but much better holeshot. With a partner I was seeing 71 with the 3 and 69-70 with the 4.

You’re not too far off. PHX 21 is a big, wide boat....which definitely impacts speed. Ya give up something to get something.

Don’t be afraid to try different props. Bravo and Promax props are great props as well. As crazy as it sounds the same model with motor combo very well could want a different prop. Every boat is different in some way. I think the other props are easier to handle at speeds than the fury.

I don't have that much tackle up front, just basic stuff, most of the weight is in rear. anyone played with the plugs in Fury props?

Something else to try with the 921 is not going full trim. I had mark crom. Work my prop 25 fury 3. When I tried it out I said that’s a waste of my $$. NOT!!! After 2 more trial run I found out the boat ran faster at 5/8–3/4 trim and not high bow lift. You still have the walking but that’s with all performance boats. Get your prop B/B from mark c. first. Then you can see the 73-74 consistent. Imop!

4pIn regards to 21 PHX, the 25p Fury 3 has a very slow delayed whole shot, top speed fully loaded 68 mph. The 24p Fury 4 has amazing whole shot, top speed 70.4mph so far fully loaded 69-70 easy at 6100 RPM. Gonna purchase the 25p Fury 4 to lower RPM's a little and gain 1-2mph hopefully. Will update again once tested. would love to try the Trophy SS 4 blade prop, has anyone tested the Trophy on a 21 PHX?
