in case anyone is wondering - I built a spinning rod on a NFC 704-1 HM blank as well as a X ray 736-1 blank. Both are very very light, but the x ray is lighter, and a bit more sensitive in dragging lures across the driveway. Both are an improvement - and pretty significantly so over a St croix legend tournament for comparison.

Kinda wish I had ordered an X-Ray now, but opting for a Point Blank is not a bad consolation prize.

Is this really a sale? Are the x-ray rods ever full price of $250 or is there always a discount by ordering direct from them? Trying to decide how many to order.

This is the cheapest price I've seen them other than the black friday sale where they were $87 with free shipping

This is a very subjective question. All around performance, support, selection ... Hydra (BBC Sponsor).
Painted ... Rod Geeks (St Croix). Glass for cranks ... St Croix or Lamiglas. Multi-piece ... St Croix.
I don't think there's one source to obtain blanks for every need. But please consider buying US blanks.

I also bought a 736-1 X-ray. The finish on the rod appears it will be a pain to wrap. It has a rat tail file finish to it, they are claiming un-sanded for better feel, so I assume a guy is to leave it as is.
Josh Keller, what was your experience with it?

Roger, I am building on two of the MB 736 X rays, and I sanded the entire blank on each one. I sanded them just enough to take off the ridges. They don't feel any different, sensitivity wise, than they did prior to sanding.

I've built 2, not a pain to wrap with the finish though I did use size D thread but I've been using that more and more when I wrap black thread on a black blank because my eyes are going.

ive built 3 on x rays so far and the grooves arent an issue to wrap - use size D thread. I will say the x rays are incredible blanks.

Thanks for the input, not sure which way I'll go yet, seem to have plenty of time to decide ordering hardware from Mudhole, 11 days is a little to long in my opinion.

The wait is worth it. In my experiences, mudhole shipping is painfully slow too - I've never got an order in under a week
