Drumming, in my opinion, is more than just keeping a beat. It's the interpretation of the melody and melodically producing the music with different tones and accents. It's also using the 26 standard rudiments and Swiss rudiments in different variations to accentuate the music. My choices would be:

    Mike Mangini
    Simon Phillips
    Dirk Verbeuren
    Alan White
    Neal Peart
    Jeff Porcaro
    Joey Jordison
    John Bonham
    Billy Cobham
    Jason Bittner

My list goes on and on. I had a Ludwig super classic set when I was 13 years old. My parents bought it from Joey Covington (Jefferson Airplane) just before he moved from PA to CA and became famous.

Very cool BuzzB8! I agree about the above statement. More than just 2 and 4, but, there are times when simple is better. Coming from a marching band background I was taking the rudiments I was learning and applying them to the drumset. At times I had to throttle it back a bit and let the rest of the band breathe.

Neil Peart Jeff Porcaro Kenny Arronoff Jim Riley (rascall flats) Jeremy Spencer (5 finger Death Punch) Greg Bissonette John Bonham Tommy Aldridge Phil Earhardt (kansas) And Todd Sucherman of styx who I think is the best Rock drummer in the world right now, not only for his powerful chops with styx but with many of his other projects he does. Also one hell of a clinician/teacher and all 'round cool guy.

His drum tech had him sign a drum head for me and I got a stick as well. Pretty cool thing to do. (One of the perks of working as a stagehand I guess.) I was talking to the tech about how much I love the drums and he walked away for a bit and grabbed Jim and had him sign it right in front of me. Honestly not a fan of Rascal Flats but after that I became A Jim Riley fan.
