Re-carpet, Recessed TM Tray, and Rod Locker extension - Ranger 374v

This week I started my project to install new carpet, install a recessed TM tray, and cut out the rod locker to extend it to fit rods longer than 7'.

I plan on posting pictures as progress continues

So far I have gotten to work on tearing it down for about 2 evenings now.

    Before:

Started by cleaning out the boat, removing all of the lids, and then the deck extension:

    Carpet arrived:

Next was the hotfoot and the seats:

Now to start removing carpet from the lids:

Tonight's focus was on finishing removing the carpet from all of the lids, and the rest of the boat.

The lid for the rear bilge area was in bad shape on the back part where the hinges attached, so I let my buddy talk me in to re-fiberglassing it. I am glad we did, it is much better. Just need to sand down the inside part of the lid and re gel it white, then re-drill the holes. It will be good as new.

Also was able to fix a few of the holes where the old "frame" for the deck extension was attached.

Getting closer to a finished product:

Removing the rest of the carpet:

Polyflake repair where deck extension frame was:

    Before

    After:

A look at all of the hardware so far. I am fortunate that all of the hardware has already been converted from rivets to bolts and nylon lock nuts

Looking Good Walter! Your boat will literally feel different once you extend the deck correctly and put better screws, nuts, bolts, etc in all of the places that need it.

Shes gonna be a beauty again and you get to feel all good about yourself!

As a Christmas present to yourself, buy a fishing jersey!

Tonight I finished sanding down the glass repair on the rear lid. Only thing left to do here is drill the holes again where the hinges bolt on

I was also able to finish removing the carpet from the deck extension pieces and identify what pieces need replacing. I am also adding another storage access in the floor of the deck extension in front of the console, so I took measurements for that.

Now that all of the carpet is officially removed from everything, it's time to start scraping glue. Although, the wire brush drill bit seemed to be the best tool for the job.

    Oh, front deck done.

I’ll give you a heads up on the lids. When you go to put the hinges on get a box of 3/16 stainless steal washes to put on the back side where they pull on the inside of the lids.

Yes sir...actually the previous owner has already converted all of my hardware from rivets to bolts and nylon lock nuts with washers. There are a couple here and there that need replacing, but good tip, thanks!

Front deck looks good! Now cut a hole in it!!

Youre doing a great job, she’s coming along! With the rain and being 38 Saturday night you have the time.

    Great progress

1990 374v. I have a 22 gal under the seat and 1 - 14 gal in the rear. It originally had 2 - 14s in the back, but previous owner took the STBD tank out for extra battery space for 36v TM. I only have a 24v, it's plenty powerful.

    Made pretty good progress tonight.

Got the glue scraping pretty much done

Went through and filled all holes with Marine Tex

Tomorrow night I will cut out the pieces being replaced on the front deck extension, seal that wood and be ready to rock Saturday morning.

great love all the pics also do you use the under seat tank and leave the one in the rear empty, to balance the load and such and do you notice a different , when you have gas in the rear tank as far as how she runs? I know mine performs better with just the right amount of gas in each tank to compensate for my weight when running alone and so on. what kinda numbers do you get mph and rpms and what set up?

She seems to perform better with the rear tanks filled. I try to alternate tanks on each fillup, but it doesn't always work out that way. When I fill the 22 gal tank she is more sensitive to be trimmed out...and wants full throttle to keep from porpoising.

Full tourney load is about 58 - 59 @ 5400 RPMs...with either tank filled...doesn't matter...the challenge is getting past the point where she wants to porpoise with the big tank full. Light load she will run 61 @ 5400 RPMs....62 on a real good day.

Turning a 25p Mercury Tempest A45 model - 2 out 3 vent plugs . Breaks over on plane at about 3800 RPM

Ok...made some more good progress tonight...but I kinda slacked on my picture taking.

Tonight I cut out all of the pieces for the frame of the deck extension and also cut out the new pieces for the deck extension itself.

The deck extension does not seal, and the carpet underneath would always remain damp for a few days after some rain...so I opted to install rubber mat as the flooring in my storage compartments.

I plan on tackling that part tomorrow when I cut out the hole for the recessed TM tray. I will let you know how it goes.
