    Lower Unit Modifications

175 Pro XS, Serial Number 1B937378......If I install a torque tab on the skeg of my motor which requires drilling five 1/8 inch holes for mounting, will I void the entire lower unit assembly ??

First off why do you think you need a torque tab? Do you have excessive steering torque at top speed when trimmed correctly? Do you also understand you may loose 1-2 mph with one.
I really doubt it would effect warranty if done properly unless it could be shown that it caused the warranty issue

will not void warrn as long as it did not cause gearcase failure

My reason for needing a torque tab is that I am running one inch below the pad and that it takes an arm wrestler to make a left hand turn at WOT. Having put torque tabs on two different motors, I never experienced a loss in mph.

What kind of steering do you have? Cable or hydraulic?

Another less-invasive option to try: Bigger steering wheel.

The area you're getting in to here can be a little on the tricky side. There is verbiage in the engine warranty "exclusions" section regarding any "modification to the product" that you should review before deciding.

I agree with Joe that it shouldn't be a problem as long as your addition did not "contribute to or cause a failure" (See Magnuson Moss Warranty Act of '76 as Ammended).

Don......thanks for the suggestion on using a bigger diameter steering wheel, I never thought of that, in fact it wasn't too long ago that I DID replace the steering wheel with a smaller one. Nuff said.
