    shortening rod

    guys:

I have a couple 7'6" med action casting rod that are just to long for my needs. Thinking of making them 7'0". Besides replacing tip top and probably removing 1st guide any thoughts?

    Thanks,

    Bill

Somebody else would love those rods. Maybe you could get a trade. In my opinion the proper place to shorten a rod is at the butt. Once the top 4-6 inches are gone a rod is junk IMHO.

If you lived closer I would readily trade you for one piece 7 foot or 6&1/2 foot rods for 7&1/2 foot rods if they were an action I liked. Try the forum for:North Carolina Fishing

Taking that much off the tip will completely change the action of the rod.

Info you’re gonna cut ..... don’t start at the top. Even shortening the butt on some rods could change the action so much....I like the trade option.

Clip from the butt end not the tip, more u cut the slower the action will get, I cut them all the time. Usually 6 inches or so
