10 miles per gallon with a Mercury 150 four stroke

We tested our 150 Mercury four stroke on our Allison Grand Sport, and the preliminary testing is really promising. 10 MPG at 40 MPH, not bad. That was with a 28" Promax prop. 77 MPH on the rev limiter at 5940 RPM. We added ProXS mounts after the first test, which are a little stiffer, still not ideal though. It really needs solid mounts.

    Engine:150 3.0L four stroke (2B444363)

Yeah there's a part of me that says there's no fishing going on in that rig.

    Well maybe fishing for compliments.

    PS: That's screaming w/ a 150. Congrats!

Great river runner, looking forward to results with the nosecone and hopefully that will allow you to match the claimed speeds at Miami boat show when this outboard was released.

Here's an update on the Allison with the 150 four stroke. 3 different props. Outstanding mileage, best is a hair under 12 MPG. 77 MPH on the limiter 5940 RPM with the 28". The 30" ProMax can do 77 at 5600, engine needs to be raised more.

This article looks at the details, plus the installation of the ProXS motor mounts.

    Article: https://www.wavetowave.com/home/2019...ll-and-details

    Highlights:

    30” ProMax:

    35 MPH at 2700 RPM = 11.7 MPG

    50 MPH at 3500 RPM = 8.7 MPG

    58 MPH at 4100 RPM = 8 MPG

    28” ProMax:

    42 MPH at 3200 RPM = 10.5 MPG

    48 MPH at 3600 RPM = 9.3 MPG

    62 MPH at 4600 RPM = 7 MPG

Very pretty and nice boat for sure. I have heard those Allison's are fast but never dreamed one that size would run that fast with a 150 HP motor. Very impressive package, Enjoy!!

I saw D. Allison drive an XB to beyond 80mph with a 2.5 merc 150 back in the 90's. Was an XR6 I believe (with the smaller gear case) running a merc chopper 28P prop that he had worked on. Impressed me back then.

Ya, those were great engines. He's an amazing guy.
