You don't need to go far to catch fish. But since you'll be there in the middle of summer, I'd highly suggest fishing early in the mornings and even at night (my favorite time to fish SML during the summer). Weekdays will be a little better, but the boat traffic on that lake during June/July is well, let's just say don't plan on trying to fish main channel points during the middle of the day - especially if it's Friday - Sunday.

    Three weeks to go.

Where is the best places to put in, figuring would be at the ramp late Saturday then taking out late Friday.

Also where are the best places to get gas during the week on the lake?

Any other tips would be appreciated. Going last week of June.

There are a couple of public ramps just up the lake toward the bridge. The Oak Grove ramp on the Franklin County side (49 Oak Grove Dr, Moneta, VA 24121) or the Hales Ford ramp (Meadow Point Dr, Moneta, VA 24121), the Oak Grove ramp is better and bigger.

I don't get gas at the lake so can't help you there.

Have fun and be safe, after your first trip here I think you'll be back.
