    My wife worked in the Veterinary field for many years in a rural area and I would help out. Saw this a lot. Always sad after, but it IS preventable. Hold the collar while in an open PU, put a ring or cable in with a snap swivel and lead, or put them in the cab. We have the bigger brain and can prevent these accidents. We would see the same people with a new pup loose in the back usually within months. Awesome.
