    Question Shoot through transducer

Anyone run a through hull transducer on a 175? My boat is a 2018 PT 175 TF, I'm looking to put a Lowrance 3 in 1 on the transom and I'm not really liking the ideal of putting a 300.00 ducer in harms way.

Where else can you put the 3/1?

I have a shoot-thru in my Tracker hull. Alumaducer, they are 2D ONLY.

It will be on the setback, I would like to be able to put it as high as possible though.

The tracker transom actually works well for transducer installs since you can mount a 2d skimmer under the step for on plane readings then mount your imaging transducer up high above the step for protection from stumps and stuff like that and its out of the wayer on plane. I have been running this setup with my humminbirds for years and it works great at all speeds.

Another benefit of the stepped transom is you can attach those long transducers under the step, but still above the bottom of the hull so some of the transducer length is recessed. That means less trimming out the outboard when scanning with Side Imaging, Side Scan, SideVu, or Side Vision.

Don't know what the 3 in 1 transducer length is but the LSS-2 would be the worse case scenario that I am aware of.

LSS-2, TotalScan, SS3D, and AI 3in1 ducers themselves, are all within 1mm length of each other, the longest being TotalScan and SS3d at 258mm. Absolute worst case scenario (if you were using the Lowrance supplied hardware), would be either of those two, during the time Lowrance was shipping with the plastic mounting bracket. I was amongst the unfortunate, and decided to fabricate my own bracket to flush mount the SS3D under the step.

Those lowrance transducers are huge compared to the humminbird style thats for sure. Didnt think about the step for the trimout that is a good point alot more clearance for the gearcase.

I made a plate to attach the Humminbird MEGA SI transducer to the underside of the transom step. The cable location worked out just right:

My next project is to make another plate for the MEGA SI+ transducer since it is longer and narrower than the MEGA SI transducer.

Yep, very similar to how I mounted my SS3D ducer, sept I used some 1/4" HDPE. Felt so wrong to be drilling holes up through the bottom of my hull.
