    Question Units Freezing

I have 3 locators on my boat. I am still crappie fishing. My garage is not heated and last night it got to 17. Several nights below freezing. I usually remove them this time of year and put back on as needed. Am I taking any chances of damage letting them stay out in this cold? Alot of money tied up there.

I keep my 788 s in my boat all winter in an open car port . I have never had an issue doing this . I am sure huminbirds manual might say not to use below a certain temp, but I think they are just covering their butt.

They sell them to use for ice fishing, I can guarantee it’s way colder up here in January/February standing on 30” of ice than what was in your boat last night. I’ve never had a problem with units that get used all winter on the open ice, other than maybe battery drain in the cold.

-15 to -20 comes up for storage of lcd screens if you google. If they are not flush mounted why not bring them inside? Bob

Question if you are going to be using the units in sub freezing temps could you not possibly do more harm than good by taking the units back and forth into drastically different temperatures that may cause condensation in the unit because of a rapid change in environment? I have no idea but something that I would want to consider.

I would suspect if -15 to -20 the water would likely freeze. Bob
The units should not be powered up if they are below zero anyway

I read -30*F in my lowrance book. I let it ride in a shed last year it was fine. I do take my birds off though
