Anyone else do this to phone/other charger cables?

I know we all prolly have some heat shrink tubing...and i know we all have cell phones. I hated always having the wire fray on me from use and started doing this. I tried the pen spring hack where you wrap the spring around the cable but ran into problems cuz it started digging into the cable. This is prolly the quickest, easiest and best hack imo. Id say start short on the initial wrap...just in cast it starts fraying at the end of the heat shrink, and you can then just add a longer piece to reinforce. Never happened to me...but just in case.

Great idea. Since I went to using Anker Lightning cords I don’t have the fraying problem. They’re pretty bulletproof.

Well, they all have pretty much changed now......my current motorola z-force droid has a different connection than all my previous ones.......so I got plenty of unusable cords & chargers I now use for other stuff.

At least the new one can't be plugged in upside down, damaging the charging port.

Fixed an iPhone cord for the wife like that last week. Thin cables going to the HydroWave, did those too. Great fix.

I buy these 3 packs for cheap (under $12) shipped from ebay. Daughters are getting them in their stockings this year as they go through chargers like candy https://www.ebay.com/itm/3Pack-10Ft-...83ae:rk:5:pf:0

    Ranting incoherently

Where theres a will theres a way....and us charger cord burners will find a way to ruin these too! Heres my cell phone charger...thought the braided/weaved outer layer would solve the issue too...but, nope. Started getting loose on me, like it was gonna start to be a problem....so I hit it with the heat shrink too! never hurts really. You can make them smaller too, so they look more streamlined and not as clunky as mine.

Yes I’ve done all of mine exactly the way you do it I do them when they’re new and I’ve gotten years out of them easily my daughter likes to unplug them by just grabbing the court and that’s what ruins them after she ruins hers she gets a hold of mine or moms man is that frustrated

My wife just had a small box delivered with about 10 different animal shapes that kinda look like the erasers you would put on a pencil. They slide on the cord and keep it from bending, would be a great stocking stuffer.

Caution with Apple products and universal charging cords---- they don't always work. We have 3 IPads and 2 IPhones, wife bought a charging cord that Wasn't an Apple and it would not charge any of the IPads or the IPhones.

Yea the pic above is for my cell phone. Only apple products when it comes to chargers....and im sure thats by design! damn apple greedy bastards change chargers with every new laptop year. Theyre worse every year too...the best chargers were the 2010-ish macbooks...the port had a pretty strong magnet...but would rip out if you stepped on the cord or something. That made too much sense so Apple brought back the charger designs that could let you break the port in the computer or something like that if you suddenly rip at the power cord....again, im sure by design so you gotta pay for repairs and/or another apple charger.

Kids and Wife seem to burn through charging cables. Ordered couple packs of those Anker and they have held up very nicely.

Funny, in all the years with all the different phones, iPods, iPads we’ve had, I don’t think we’ve ever buggered up a cord. Maybe we’re just a bit more careful, or maybe dumb luck, but it seems there’s cords everywhere around our house, some of them have been around for quite a while too.

Must be luck, I go through 2 per year. The little shrink tube idea might be a good solution for me.
