    Speeding ticket

My grandson got a ticket for speeding. The officer guesstimated on his speed. I've never heard of this happening, and I'm wondering if we have chance in fighting it. I don't believe it is possible to accurately guess the speed of a vehicle! Anybody on here ever fought a ticket like this?

If he was speeding, Why fight it? Setting a good example?

I received a ticket and the officer stated pacing on the ticket and it stood in court. The officer uses solid objects that are known distance apart such as light poles to time the travel speed.

Was the officer following for some time?

It's certainly worth a try to contest the charge. Just be respectful and try to explain all your points. Good luck!

You can always go to court and hope the officer doesn't show.

Speed can actually be estimated pretty accurately by a LEO. How fast are we talking? Where was the officer and what was he doing when guessing the speed. That's the key. Some judges will toss it and some won't. If GA law has precedence it will follow that.

Technically 1mph over is speeding. Go to court, tell him to take to money with him. It will get reduced, pay court cost, suspend the fine, get another speeding ticket and pay both.

If he got him on radar, or by tailing him, I would have no issue with it. But to throw out a number, and assume it's accurate doesn't sit well with me. The kid was in a 35mph zone, and was ticketed for 54.

Guesstimation will not hold up in court. Now, I wouldn't call local station and asked her to call me I will try to work it out and if that didn't work out probably take it to court at the end of the day if he was speaking he definitely needs to be punished.

Any judge worth his Weight deals with facts and not assumptions.

The cop did him a favor dropping it to 54 because if he put down 55 thats 20mph over and he could lose his licence.
Pay the fine and move on.

Need to hear the Officers version of events and let the Judge decide.

Do you have ticket lawyers? I know some states have lawyers that charge you the cost of the ticket but get it dropped (no points, since ticket dropped). I HATE giving any county money, rather give it to a low life lawyer.

Not sure why you are concerned that your grandson got a speeding ticket unless you are raising him. He has a drivers license and access to a car, he owns it.

Contact local attorney and more than likely he can have it dismissed or lowered to a seat belt violation or something without any points on his license/insurance. I have had it done a few times. Cost was about $125 for the last one.
