My MG had to go in the shop when I picked up my 2006 ARIES new. It would kick on by itself, and about dump you out the boat. Got fix, hasn't had a issue since. My Minn Kota trolling motors have been worked on a number of times. And I don't even use them often.

Forever. You'll just have to change out a few parts now and then. They'll last, but maybe not always work, then it's up to you what to do with them.

Motoguide on my first boat was 18 years old. Still running as far as I know.

Not long. Everyone needs an Ultrex. It's a "game changer."

I just changed out my 2002 MG Tour 109 for an almost new one made in 2015. It lasted 16 years and was sloppy and noisy but working fine. It required a few minor upgrades over the years but was totally reliable and incredibly tough. I did wear out a few mounts in the same timeframe. They will last a very long time if maintained once in a while.

Fortrex 101 came with my boat purchased new in Sept of '09. Only issue I have had was when I hit a submerged rock at just about full speed, knocked the motor off kilter. Had to bring it to the shop for that repair. Other than that a few plastic parts for the mounting bracket here and there, it has been flawless.

Just swapped out a 99' Motor-Guide 24V-80# that was not Digital and couldn't be repaired. It still ran on high but no variable speed. That thing pulled a Champion 221 for darn near 20 years. Wish they still made things like they use to.

I've had a MG Brute 765 almost catch fire. I think this was a '00 vintage motor that came with my boat. The wire insulation inside the head dry rotted and caused a short. Put some electrical tape on and it was good to go!

I have an '84 Evinrude Scout 12 volt and a 90(?) OMC 12/24 that are still working great for what I need.

20 yrs. +/- on my foot-operated ones, even longer with my transom/hand grip models.
Parts availability can become an issue on the older guys.

Hang onto that Great White. The new X5 is total crap.

I thought I would upgrade my 36v Great White to the new X5, lasted 1 trip before calling MG and seller trying to figure out how to get this thing off my boat.
Put the old 2005 Great White back on. Still running strong.

    Things I have fixed:
Plastic head will crack at the shaft, new plastic was $28.
    Speed controller went out. $30

I have a spare 36v Great White I found local. Recommend you keep an eye out for one unless you want to switch the MK. Some parts are no longer available.

My first Maxxum lasted at least 15 years and was well used. Ran fine when I sold the old boat.

I guess it has a lot to do with how much one uses it. I fish twice a week, some times three times a week about 48 weeks a year. I installed the third one a few years ago.

I've ran my 2009 Maxxum hard up until last month when I replaced it with a new Ultrex. It was starting to stick on me so could use a brush kit. I'll be keeping it as a backup in case the Ultrex gives me any problems.

I have worn one out to the point of needing rebuilding. Guess it depends on how much you fish and what kind of fishing you do. The one I have now is 7 years old and still looks good and operates as it did new.
