How does the ride compare between the two boats in rougher water and boat wakes etc?? Ive never rode in a pad hull aluminum boat

Pad hull won't make any difference, IMO. My Tin boats have never busted welds or rivets because I don't drive over wakes WOT. I also try to hit the wakes in the front third of the boat.

I would say the 198 would ride better. It is a deeper V hull. Had a 188 it was good but in really rough water it would beat you up pretty bad. Never been in a 198 but I have a Xpress ride is way better.

Yep, having fished with my Unc in a 2007 X19 for the past 9 years, there is no comparison. Xpress is the the BOMB.

The extra length in the 198 also helps. I had a 17' 6" pad tin boat and the RT188 definitely rides better but I think the extra 14 inches in length and a bit more width accounts for the improvement. Having a bit more V in the 198's hull should also help over the 188.
